Lexington Park is not really its own city but in a census-designated place in St. Mary's County in southern Maryland. It's home to about 12,000 residents in the entire area is spread out along the Patuxent River completely surrounding the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. Lexington Park was created in 1943 with the establishment of the Patuxent Naval Air Station during World War II and was named for the recently sunk USS Lexington aircraft carrier.
